Giacomo Castogiovanni Headshot

Giacomo Castrogiovanni

Principal

Giacomo was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. He received his Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of New Orleans and his Juris Doctor from Loyola University, New Orleans School of Law. He is also a licensed real estate agent, current status inactive.

After Hurricane Katrina, he worked with Team Title LLC, disbursing Road Home Grants to the citizens of Southeast Louisiana. Previous to his career in law and business, Giacomo worked in the film and television industry in Los Angeles California, Cleveland Ohio, and his hometown of New Orleans.

While in law school, he worked with The Juvenile Justice Project of Louisiana, assisting in the resentencing of adults convicted of serious crimes as juveniles, as well as The New Orleans City Attorney’s Office, where he assisted the City with general civil matters.

Giacomo has the honor and pleasure of serving as the current Staff Attorney for the Loyola University New Orleans College of Law, Stuart H. Smith Law Clinic & Center for Social Justice, for the Louisiana Prison Reentry Initiative program (LA-PRI), administering a grant through The United Way and the Department of Justice, assisting the newly released returning persons and those with upcoming prison releases to reintegrate into their lives. It is truly rewarding work that he views as a calling.

Giacomo's current private practice areas include family law, criminal defense, and personal injury.

When he first started out, he was fortunate enough to benefit from the best mentorship possible, through the New Orleans Bar Association's 'Mentor Up' program, and initially learned much of what he knows of his family law practice through the kindness and guidance of his mentoring practitioners. This "passing on" of knowledge was essential in advancing his practice, and formed the basis of his early career.

His criminal defense practice was borne of necessity, at the intersection of domestic violence defense and its civil equivalent in the prosecution of LPOR protective orders. He continues to broaden his criminal practice through the Orleans Parish Public Defender's Office, where he works as a Conflict Panel attorney, and additionally through the Loyola Law Clinic, where he has been fortunate enough to work with highly experienced professors, and the incomparably passionate Title XX student practitioners.

Giacomo's personal injury practice is greatly informed by his brother and primary partner in business and law, Nicholas B. Castrogiovanni, who brings 25 years of experience to this practice area. We approach injury cases very differently from the larger firms - with an exacting attention to detail that can get lost in bigger organizations.

He is an active member of both the New Orleans Bar Association and the Jefferson Parish Bar Association.

The most important tenet to Giacomo's approach to the practice of law is teamwork. He owes much of his success to the generous mentors he has had both in practice and academia, and to the nexus of great lawyers and staff he enjoys working with in not only his private practice, but also the Loyola Law Clinic, and the Orleans Parish Public Defender's Office. If you want to go fast, you go alone. If you want to go far, we must go together.

Nicholas B. Castrogiovanni is a lifelong resident of New Orleans whose family name is very well known, either through his grandfather Nick, after whom he was named, a world renowned mixologist who owned Nick’s Bar on Tulane Avenue, or his father Jack, a well respected physician and professor at Tulane Medical School who practiced Internal Medicine in the New Orleans area for half a century.

Following law school, Nick managed physicians’ practices as “in house” counsel before entering private practice at his former firm of Davis, Saunders & Miller, where he was engaged in general practice over the last 20 years.

With his medical background, Nick primarily focuses on automobile and maritime personal injury claims. However, he has also helped homeowners fight their insurance companies due to destruction caused by Hurricanes Katrina and Isaac, individual property damage, succession matters, simple wills, and misdemeanor criminal defense (including traffic tickets) in all of the parishes in the greater New Orleans area.
